Teaching Reading Really is
“Rocket Science”
According to research, many
children with reading and spelling difficulties need help:
-
improving
the ability to order and move sounds within spoken syllables
(phonemic awareness),
-
associating
those sounds with printed letters within words (phonological
awareness), and
-
transferring
these abilities to actual reading and spelling.
Collectively,
these are often called “multisensory” reading techniques.
Did You Know That
Children
with dyslexia or other specific reading (or spelling) difficulties:
can
learn how to read?
need
specialized help?
either
read words incorrectly, or spend so much time and energy trying to
decipher them,
that they don’t understand much of what they read?
